The St.Galler Kantonalbank was founded in 1868 to offer the population and small businesses in its own canton savings and credit facilities and thus promote the regional economy. It has been listed on the Swiss stock exchange since 2001.  The canton of St. Gallen holds 51% of the share capital as majority shareholder.

In its home market in the cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Ausserrhoden, it offers the full range of financial services.

The rest of German-speaking Switzerland is actively served by the Private Banking and Corporate Clients segments from Zurich, and the German market is served by the subsidiary SGKB Deutschland. In addition, St.Galler Kantonalbank assumes responsibility for the economic, social and cultural development of the region as an employer, taxpayer and sponsoring partner.

St.Galler Kantonalbank focuses on the core markets of Eastern Switzerland, the rest of German-speaking Switzerland and Germany.
